Screw China

All torture is evil, whether Afghan, American or Chinese. The Chinese Govt are authoritarian gangsters. Bombardier, iconic company for minority obsessed by "survivance", whose iconic product, the ski-doo, itself harkens to survivance motif, built a railroad designed to facilitate ethnic cleansing, murder, torture & general repression of another conquered minority. Shame on Bombardier, shame on QC, Cdn & Irish governments for backing them, shame on citizenry for quiescence, and shame on Liberal membership & party, given links to Bombardier, for our role in it and for not speaking out. What sort of supposed democracy puts dollars before human rights? If willing to deal with China, who AREN'T you willing to deal with? At the very least, those in favour of "engagement" should be honest about what we're accepting. Simpson's weasel words on this have shocked me. There are two views: we engage as much as possible in the hope that economic transformation leads to democratic change (and for reasons of economic self-interest), or we do everything we can to signal our condemnation of hideous government, exercising maximum pressure, whatever that might cost us (and them, since they need us too). The only thing to be criticised here is incoherence and dishonesty. If you think we should engage, that's legitimate, but at least have the decency to be honest about what you're willing to ignore, widespread government murder, torture, Boer-type concentration camps, massive repression, forced organ harvesting, etc.. . If you think we should protest to the max, fine, but admit what they will likely cost us economically and therefore, in Canadian lives. And whichever you support, the strategy only makes sense if you go all-in. If you really think, and not for reasons of self-interest, that we can best effect change through quiet dialogue, with occasional pro-forma speeches, then we should do absolutely everything to strengthen our economic links. If you think that the Chinese Govt is just too evil and we should do as little as possible that could be seen as condoning them, then we need to drastically cut ties. I argue about this all the time. I simply can't support ignoring the evil nature of the regime. Same as having free-trade with Colombia, for me. But I recognise that I could well be wrong, that China is just too big, unlike Colombia, etc.. Maybe so. But sooner you than me, shaking hands, smiling and signing deals with those thugs. Screw 'em. Screw China. The sooner the Chinese Squealers & Napoleons are overthrown, the better.
