Dear endorsers,

On February 25, the "Day of peaceful Anger", the Iraqi youth and the Iraqi people demonstrated indeed peacefully, from North to South and East to West, to demand their rights.  After having tried via many tricks, means, intimidations and crimes to prevent access to the demonstrations, the Al Maliki government used force against the peaceful demonstrations, including: live ammunition, water canon, tear gas, and sound bombs. On February 25, at least 23 Iraqis died, many were injured, and mass arrests took place especially among the organizers of the demonstrations and media workers. The next day, the government ordered violent attacks on the processions to burry the martyrs.

The demonstrators have already achieved victory on the governmental allies: many corrupted local councils and governors have resigned and fled; many army officers defected and joined the protests; and Iraqis broke the fear barrier imposed by the occupation. Iraqis also defeated the attempt to divide them along sectarian and ethnic lines. All day, protesters across Iraq were destroying the walls built by the occupation to divide them, both physically and metaphorically. The slogans they chanted across the country were based on: "We are all Iraqis and we will die for Iraq".

Your appeal to not use force against peaceful protesting Iraqis, but was and continues to be a precious act of solidarity. The Iraqi people will always remember those who stood by them. We will keep you informed on the situation in Iraq as the struggle of the Iraqi people continues.
