Cautiously Encouraged By Iggy's Response

We'll see if Iggy & caucus stick to their initial response, but I certainly hope so. Maybe it was the effect of meeting all those idealistic young Liberals this weekend. Whatever it is, it is a welcome continuation of what so far has been a strong, principled and consequent position. Given my history of Iggy criticism, I am pleasantly surprised and impressed. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but if he means what he says, and caucus too, and they actually stand up for Parliament and Canada, when the time comes (having given Govt every opportunity to obey Order, every benefit of the doubt due supposed "Honourable Members"), this could be not just huge turning point for Canadian democracy, reiterating democratic principles, but for the LPC & Iggy. It started with the LPC reaction to Colvin's testimony, helped by some clever work by Rae, and has continued, with Iggy's excellent speech, the OLO being quickest to catch onto CAPP significance and agree to come to Parliament on Jan 25th, the roundtables, and seems to be continuing. These are the days that will either make or break the Iggy LPC, for good. They will either condemn themselves to irrelevance and perpetual opposition by seeming all wet, meaningless & pointless, or they will solidify the sense they are a strong, principled, determined & visionary unit, standing up for Canada & Parliament, preparing their ascent to power. I hope it is the latter.

Let's hope these quotes mean something:

“We're disappointed that the government has told Mr. Iacobucci to basically decide which documents to withhold from Parliament and the Canadian people,” Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said after an event in Scarborough, Ont. on Saturday.
“He's been given an impossible job and we don't believe we're going to get to the bottom of the Afghan detainee scandal this way,” he said.
The government did not give Mr. Iacobucci a specific timeline to complete his work, stipulating only that it be “completed expeditiously,” but Mr. Ignatieff said he fears this means the government is “playing politics.”
The documents Mr. Iacobucci will be reviewing also date back to when the Liberals were in power, but Ignatieff said “let the chips fall where they may.”
