Shocking Anti-Journalism Update: Canadians Unimpressed

Interesting to see that the episode of shocking anti-journalism has provoked 1111 comments TO THIS POINT at the Globe (!!!) and 129 at Macleans. That's an AWFUL lot for the Globe (have they ever had more?) and a goodly number for Macleans. And the vast majority disgusted and angry with our political media. I hope the media are noticing this. There is an anger out there, about how they are or, rather, are not, doing their jobs. Think of the treatment afforded politicians by the media. I wonder, if the Canadian public was asked to vote on which media were worthy of their jobs, regardless of political bias (public's and media's own), how many of our media would be voted in as MPPGs (members of the parliamentary press gallery)? I know y'all are very self-critical as is, but this seems an instructive episode re. public's view, and the attention they are paying. Remember how many thought prorogation would be a non-issue? And detainees? And order of parliament? And census? Contrary to Akin, it seems to me an awful lot of Canadians are paying an awful lot of attention, as Iggy is finding out on his tour. And to real things, and they consider "process stories" important, because, after all, democracy is NOTHING BUT a process story. Canadians are democrats, and more fair-minded than most in most places. And they care. And they pay attention. More than y'all think. and that's a good thing, for y'all, you're not working in a void, or for a small self-selecting audience, as you fear. The country is watching. You, and your jobs, and how you do your jobs, matter. We care. But that also means you can't get away with the BS you think you can, at least in the eyes of the public. And so when you mess up, they judge you harshly. And rightly so. So you should feel good, on the one hand, as your jobs and lives are useful, worthwhile and meaningful. But on the other hand, because of that, people don't think much of an awful lot of your BS. They think you're important. They'd like to like you. But y'all make it so very hard, so very often. C'mon guys, smarten up. A country, your country, your people, Canada and Canadians, are counting on you. And watching. And judging. Make us proud.
