Col. Williams, Foglia et Lisée : brillants et inconscients pervertis

I meant to write a quick post quoting Foglia, saying that despite despising the man, he had written a perceptive piece but he and other laïciste crusaders should take their own advice re. "la différence" and apply it to Muslims, Jews and others. But in searching for the link that would explain why I despise him, I came across Lisée's summary of the Bombardier-Foglia fight, with links to all the relevant posts. I knew Foglia was pro-Polanski and effectively an apologist for pedophilia and rape. I had not realised until now that Lisée was too: "Je suis indubitablement du camp Foglia sur le fond, en général, y compris en ce cas." OK, so Lisée is not just a quasi-9/11 Truther, he's also an apologist for pedophiles and rapists. You know, I haven't paid for La Presse since Lussier & Cassivi wrote their evil, and it's irritating to have to find other means to read it, whether the internet, cafes or libraries, but as poorly as I think of Lisée, I never imagined he was quite so evil, and now this means I won't be buying l'Actualité as long as he's employed there. which means further aggravation. Naive perhaps, since I knew he was a quasi-9/11 Truther, but there you are (9/11 Truther = crazy, and  I can deal with that, but evil? No). I always think the best of people, until disproven.

Lisée & Co.'s unconsciousness of their own hypocrisy and contradictions is striking. It's "vive la différence" for gays, including socially unusual and viscerally upsetting clothing, but not for Muslims, Jews, Sikhs etc.. They claim to be pro-liberalism, except that Bush-like, they urge us to save the liberal village by destroying it. In Lisée's case, slavishly pro-American, culturally, but sympathetic to anti-American conspiracy theories (idiotic: you don't need to be paranoid to be critical of American empire). Both make much of their bobo leftism, all for workers, women, etc., except that in fact, they are apologists for a rich and powerful man's rape of a young girl of vastly inferior wealth and status.

This seems strange, doesn't it, but I was just talking to someone about Col. Williams. She found it hard to believe that anyone, esp. of his status, could behave so apparently normally in most of his life and be such a sicko in another part, allegedly. But that's how these people, these serial killers and sickos, are built, isn't it? Their lives are compartmentalised, they see no contradiction between leading people based upon strong positive value systems on the one hand, and the most horrific, contradictory behaviour on the other. There is something broken inside them, some missing connection between A & B.

There would seem to be something similar happening with Foglia, Lisée and similar  "progressives". I suppose one could make the same sort of statement about a supposed social democratic party, like the NDP, defending bigots and bigotry. It's odd, it's upsetting, but there you are, there are a few badly wired beasts in every species. It links nicely to Coyne post though: all the more reason we need people like him to stay coherent, so as to keep the rest of us honest, whatever our views. It's the coherent and accidentally incoherent decent human beings against the sickos and their misfiring synapses. We must win, they must lose, and that's all there is to it.
