Casson Departure Significant re. Honour & Election?

I have referred to Con MP Rick Casson, Chair of the Afghan Committee, three times, noting first that he seemed a good & honourable man, who probably detested the Giorno PMO shits, then calling on him to report for the Afghan Committee's meetings, reminding him of his wise foreword to the June 2007 Defence Committee Report in which he eloquently affirmed the necessity of Parliament & Parliamentary Committees in holding the Government to account, and finally highlighting Dosanjh's tweet haiku which reported his conversation with Casson through which Dosanjh intuited a long prorogation was coming as Casson suggested the committee meet when the House resumed.... Now Casson is retiring! I have no reason to doubt that family & personal considerations were important, as stated. But given his honourable conduct in committee, so different from the other Cons, in fact one of a seemingly ever smaller handful of honourable MPs among the Cons (power corrupts?), I can't help wondering whether frustration with his own Government's behaviour, now so contrary to what Casson wrote in 2007, played some role in his decision, and he might have been concerned that further acquiescence in Giorno's heavy-handed tactics would have endangered his sense of personal honour and self-respect.

I also intuit from the timing and his statements that he feels an election is likely, sooner rather than later. 1. "He exchanged letters to that effect with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and decided to give the riding association plenty of time to set up the nomination process before the next election." 2. Casson: “It is business as usual until the day before the next federal election, whenever that may be,”. So Casson feels, on Jan 6th, that he needs to announce resignation now to give RA "plenty of time" & says he'll stay on till next election "whenever that may be”? I hardly think, having announced his retirement, he's planning on staying in Ottawa much longer. Casson's betting on a Spring election, seems to me. Given how we basically got confirmation of long prorogation from him, would anyone bet against him re. Spring election? Whatever desire some may have to avoid one, including myself, actually, all had better (re-)consider their strategy & tactics in light of this probability, as I have done for quite a while.
