Policy-wise, while I agree with with the general tenor of John Moore's post re. the need to be realistic in Afghanistan (ie. we should have left long ago and ASAP now), I take severe exception to the concluding sentence "There’s another lesson the Conservatives could learn from the NDP leader. He’s man enough to set partisanship aside when his rivals are actually getting something right." On Afghanistan, the NDP is as guilty of clueless posturing leading to wasted blood and treasure as anyone. Might I refer all to this CBC story from April 24, 2007: "MPs defeat motion to pull troops from Afghanistan by 2009 - A Liberal motion to end Canadian combat operations in southern Afghanistan by February 2009 was defeated in the House of Commons on Tuesday. The NDP joined the Conservatives in defeating the motion, which lost by a close vote of 150-134."
As Kady O'Malley noted correctly, in later reflections on the issue "As far as I'm concerned, no party is without blame. The Canadian public, on the other hand, can at least comfort themselves on their collective common sense, although it's not like anyone listened to them."
